Fall All Over Him

September 20th, 2014

It is officially, the last weekend of the summer. And although here on the West-Coast summer has been holding on, there is strong evidence of fall weather in other parts of the Country and  I know it is only a matter of time before fall graces all corners of the country with it’s presence.  It has never been a secret that I’m no fan of the cold. Yes, I would rather the warmth of the summer sun rays rather than the gusty cool winds of fall yet I can’t help but enjoy the colours, textures and styles that fall fashion always brings.

Every fall there is one thing I always look forward to and that is seeing a well dressed man rocking a trendy coat my fave being an overcoat. Yummy right?!

Fashionable coats have been a staple in men’s fall fashion.  It’s often brings a level of finesse to a man’s ensemble whether it be formal, business or casual. Over the years it’s been great to see that men’s fashion continues to push the envelop with silhouettes and colours.  Men have often played it safe when it came to their coats; gravitating to the classic colours like black, grey, brown, navy.  But now we are seeing the same bold colour coat trends that has been predominate in women’s fashion for some time crossing over into menswear.

Fall 2014 runways were flooded with a number of great styles and colours of men’s coats.  Sometimes it just takes the right colour to bring out even the most minute details in a garment.  It will be great to see men embrace not only the bold colours of these coats but also the manipulation on some of the classic silhouettes.  This season there is no reason for any man to go without a stylish coat.

Crop It!

August 19th, 2014

It’s hard to believe that summer 2014 is rapidly coming to an end.  It’s also hard to believe that this is my first and probably last summer blog for this year.  I guess I have been spending too much time in the sun.  But I can’t end my favorite season without a KYC style post now can I?

I love when the hottest season trends continue over into the next year; it’s always great on the pocket.  For some of us it isn’t really summer until we are showing a little skin and this year’s continuing trend of the crop top has made that objective a bit easier.   I have said it before that showing a little mid-drift isn’t for us all.  It is important to know your body and what styles work for you.  This year however, the key to rocking the crop top was to keep it ‘trѐs’ classy and ‘trѐs’ sophisticated.  It is not necessarily all about showing off the whole mid-section or having the belly button on full display as it was before, but instead it was about just that little peak.

Crop tops can easily look trashy, but when paired with the right styles: full skirts, a blazer, at waist or high waisted skirts, shorts and pants, you trend can quickly go from cheap to chic.  These pairing choices helps to balance out your look by keeping the amount of skin shown minimal and at least an inch above the belly button; therefore, bringing an element of sophistication and maturity to your style.

What Does Your Spring Look Like? Part 2

May 4th, 2014

There is just something about a great pair of white jeans.  White makes us think, new, crisp, and clean.   Aren’t those perfect adjectives for Spring? We cannot deny it is a great basic that somehow allows every colour paired with it look fresh.

Most of us own a vast array of jeans.  Different shades of the classic blue jeans and over the past few years some of us have over saturated our closets with the colourful jeans trend.  But my question a few weeks ago remains… “Do you have a great pair of white jeans in your closet?”

I know a lot of us shy away from white for a couple reasons: 1) It tends to be a stain magnet and 2) It can sometimes make some of us look a little wider than we really are.  However, I seriously urge you not to let those small reason keep you away from looking great.  Just be extra careful when your wearing your white, and be aware of lifestyle.  If you are overly concerned, maybe this is not an outdoor amusement park outfit choice but great for ac cup of tea outing with that gal pals.  There are several styles of  jeans that once you find the right pair suited for your body type and comfort level, it will do everything but make you look big.

As we moved into summer we will begin to see more and more of a rise in this trend.  The availability of stock in stores will be on the rise as well, so you should have no problem finding the perfect pair for you.  Stop by your favorite stores and try on a few pairs (boyfriend, bootleg, skinny etc.) and grab the pair that makes you look and feel great.

It’s Gonna Be A Big Night!

March 1, 2014

The count down is coming to an end.  The big night that movie buff’s and fashionista’s have all been waiting for has almost come upon us for this year.  Tomorrow night marks the 86th Academy Awards (Oscars) and a lot of us will be glued to our televisions with anticipation and excited as it broadcast.

This is the night that the stylist teams bring their ‘A’ game.  A lot of them will hit the mark, either maintaining their ‘Star’ clients fashion icon status or catapulting those right on our fashion radar.  But we must also be prepared for some tragedies with looks missing the mark completely and ‘Stars’ looking a hot mess.

Trends will be made tomorrow night and designers will get their praise but being the ‘Star’ behind that trend setting look is often a big deal that can come with many benefits.  Here is a look at a few of our favorite Oscar looks over the years, that has definitely made a impression in fashion.

KYC sTylists will be sure to give you their top hits and miss report of the 86th Academy Awards in ‘A Stylist Take’.  We can’t wait to see all the glitz and glamour Hollywood has in store! You can also follow us on twitter @ro_kycstylists to get our by the moment red carpet thoughts.

Evening Wear Fit for The Stars

February 13, 2014

Award season has been upon us for a little while now with the Grand Finale of the Academy Awards quickly approaching.   We all love award season as it is our opportunity to get a little taste of the latest styles of Evening Wear as the Hollywood stars strut their stuff down the red carpet   We have seen some amazing pieces thus far but yet we are still anticipating that the best were saved for last.

For many of us this is the moment we are often introduced and have the opportunity to admire the new designs, styles and trends of evening gowns for the upcoming spring 2014 season.   These are often our reference points when looking for that gown for our springs/summer formal events.  If you are looking for some ideas you can often find similar red carpet gowns on www.victoriasdress.co.uk .

So what do you look for when choosing Formal Evening Dresses?  What are some of the trends for Evening Dresses 2014?

If you don’t mind taking a few risk, tap into your ‘alter ego’ and let your sexy out for the night.  It’s not every day you get to feel like a Hollywood Diva ‘cat walking’ down the red carpet (figuratively speaking)  in a sexy show stopping number so why not?!  You always want something that makes you feel sexy.  Sophisticated sexy is what 2014 is all about.  We often think sexy mean barley there clothing but that is not the only case for 2014.  Yes, there still are extremely low plunging neck lines, very high cut slits and bare backs but when you add structure to a gown, limit your elements of sexy to one key feature you strengthen sexy appeal without compromising elegance and sophistication.

Again sexy doesn’t always mean you have to show an excessive amount of skin.  You can also create sexy with the right silhouette.  That right dress can give you that coveted ‘Jessica Rabbit’ hourglass figure and that is what is sexy.  With a sexy evening dresses the key is to always play up your best assets, giving you the confidence you need to wear the gown without the own wearing you.

Colour is also an important factor when picking an evening dress and you want to be aware of the colour trends that season.  There are of course the staples, black, white and the classic red, which are often the safe bets if you are unaware of what colours are in for the season and which colours are best for your skin tone.  But if you are looking to separate yourself from the crowd and you have a little time to do some fashion colour trend research, do it and find that new wow colour that’s best for you.

Don’t be afraid of a little detail.  Sometimes we shy away from it and gravitate to something plain because we don’t want to draw too much attention to ourselves.  However detail can often bring another element of interest to a gown. Detail don’t have to be big or over the top, it can be a side -gather, or some box pleats or a big bow in the back, the use of lace or some strategically placed subtle ‘bling’.

For whatever formal event you may have approaching this year; wedding, black tie gala, channel your inner ‘Hollywood Glam’.
